The Boston Red Sox are promoting left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle to Triple-A Worcester, according to MassLive.com, as the first-year pro continues his speedy progression through the minor leagues.
The No. 50 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Tolle debuted with the Single-A Greenville Drive at the start of the 2025 season. The 22-year-old pitched in 11 games for Greenville before he was promoted to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.
With Portland, Tolle made six appearances, including five starts. He went 1-1 with a 1.67 ERA with 37 strikeouts and seven walks in 27 innings.
He his final start with the Sea Dogs before his promotion, Tolle pitched four scoreless innings in Portland’s 4-1 win over the Altoona Curve. He allowed one hit and one unearned run, while striking out six and walking two.
In 17 minor league appearances, Tolle is 2-4 with a 2.93 ERA. In 76 2/3 innings, he has 116 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP.
