Dive into CLT’s ‘Spongebob Musical’ in Auburn

AUBURN — Starting Friday, Aug. 8, and running (swimming?) for two weeks, Community Little Theatre will present “The SpongeBob Musical.”

A lively, musical adaptation of the beloved animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends confront a looming volcanic eruption in Bikini Bottom and must harness their creativity and friendship to save their home. Directed by Brandon Chaloux, the production features a diverse cast celebrating individuality and community. The production includes original songs from renowned artists such as Cyndi Lauper and Panic! At The Disco, providing a heartwarming theatrical experience for audiences of all ages.

Hear the music of Hildaland in Denmark

DENMARK — Hildaland, featuring Scotland-born fiddler Louise Bichan and American mandolinist Ethan Setiawan, will present a collaboration and meeting of musical worlds on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Denmark Arts Center.

A path steeped in the fiddle traditions of their respective sides of the Atlantic, the journey taken by the two musicians wends through Scottish, old-time, and Swedish-inspired music intertwined with contemporary compositions.

Go ‘Tonight’ through Aug. 23 to ‘West Side Story’ in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK — Maine State Music Theatre presents its fourth and final production of the 2025 main stage season with the legendary Broadway musical “West Side Story” running Aug. 6 through 23 at Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus.

Set in 1950s New York City, “West Side Story” follows two star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria, caught between rival gangs — the Jets and the Sharks — in a world fueled by fear, prejudice and division. With music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a story inspired by “Romeo and Juliet,” the musical continues to resonate with audiences more than 65 years after its Broadway debut.

Head back to the ’60s with Marc Black in Greene

GREENE — New York-based singer-songwriter Marc Black will make a tour stop at Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial on Friday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. His show focuses on the intersection of popular music and American culture, with songs that conjure coming of age in the raucous and colorful ’60s as a member of the Woodstock Generation. Susan Black will add to the depth of the experience with visuals from the era, while Marc will also share personal stories of his touring days with the likes of The Doors, Neil Diamond and Van Morrison.

Learn all about Milton Bradley in Norway

NORWAY — Vienna, Maine-born game maker Milton Bradley will be the subject of a talk Thursday, Aug. 7, at Norway Memorial Library by historian John Hutchinson, who is also the business reference librarian at Raymond F. Fogler Library at the University of Maine in Orono.

The presentation, from 6:30-8 p.m., will focus on the man who pioneered fun and educational games and later became a champion of the kindergarten movement. Bradley was also a master lithographer and creative entrepreneur. This talk will include visuals such as a reproduction of his first hit board game, a first edition set of his popular Author Cards, and a working zoetrope.

Enjoy some gospel in Farmington

FARMINGTON — Ernie, Jason and Memphis Couch will present a Christian music ministry offering a mix of 20th-century gospel classics and original music at Trinity United Methodist Church Sunday, Aug. 10, at 5 p.m.

The Grammy-nominated group has been traveling the road for over three decades in the U.S. and Canada, as well as recording with the likes of George Beverly Shea, Jake Hess, George Jones, Petra, James Earle Jones, Patti Page, and Poco and Dallas Holm. Celebrate Maine’s lakes in Canton

CANTON — The Lake Anasagunticook Association will hold its annual Lake Days celebration at the Canton Boat Launch, 7 Staples Hill Road, on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..  The event celebrates summer on the lake.  The public is invited, admission is free and the celebration will be held rain or shine.

Food, a cake walk, musical bingo, a slip ‘n’ slide, and raffle and door prizes are among the fun planned. A sausage plate lunch is available ($5 donation appreciated) or bring a picnic lunch. Kids hot dog and chips are free. Bottled water provided. Canned soft drinks available ($1 donation appreciated). Free ice cream and watermelon.
