It is oh-so-comforting to know that Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Angus King are in positions to make decisions on what’s best for us.

I jest. In their own words, on recent votes, they have shown how much they care about women’s right to control their own bodies … and so much more, but letters to the editor are limited to 250 words.

Collins said, “I cast each vote based on what is right for Maine and America … Sometimes that means I agree with the president and sometimes I disagree.” I wonder if what was “right for Maine” was the vote allowing the budget bill to proceed to a subsequent vote that would cancel funding for Maine women’s reproductive care at Planned Parenthood and Maine Family Planning, while funding Trump’s ICE and providing tax breaks to billionaires?

As for Sen. King and his vote to approve Josh Divine as a U.S. District Court judge, “In retrospect, I think it was a mistake, from what I’ve learned about Mr. Divine since. But sometimes, you rely on your colleagues.” Asked if he was aware of Divine’s record on abortion rights, King said, “Not fully.” How long will it take him to learn that not one of his Republican colleagues will support anything that benefits Maine, or the preservation of the Constitution?

We pay these people money to protect our interests. I wouldn’t mind getting my share back.
