When Matt Hamel realized there were no food delivery options in Rangeley, he decided to do something about it. In a place where food delivery platforms are not available, Peak Eats is hitting the road, bringing freshly made portions straight from local restaurants to Rangeley-area doorsteps.

Peak Eats delivers to Rangeley and Oquossoc Village from Oquossoc Grocery on Tuesdays, 4-6:30 p.m., and Bald Mountain Camps Resort on Thursdays, 5-8:30 p.m. Beginning Saturday, delivery will be available from The Shed.

Ordering is easy, Hamel explained. Customers contact the restaurant Peak Eats services on that particular day, they place an order and provide a delivery address. There is no need to worry about deliveries sitting under a warming lamp or waiting for a driver to pick them up.

“The restaurant lets me know they have an order and, if I am not there already, I’ll go over and wait until it is done. When it is ready to go out the door, I bring it right to where it is being delivered,” he said.

The delivery fee ranges between $5 and $10, plus tip, depending on whether the delivery is in Rangeley or Oquossoc Village.

Hamel anticipates expanding hours and offerings in the winter months.

“I think this could be a very useful service when the condos on Saddleback are filled,” he explained.

He is originally from Bethel and visited the region frequently to hunt and fish. After serving in the Army for eight years, he decided to settle in the area.

In addition to the delivery service, Hamel works full-time at Bald Mountain Camps Resort. When he isn’t working at either of those jobs, he runs Rangeley Waste Disposal.

“I have always needed to keep busy,” he said. “I am having a lot of fun and providing services to the community that I think are nice to have.”
