DEAR SUN SPOTS: Fall mums are coming! Longfellow’s Greenhouse is providing chrysanthemums in 9-inch pots for $10 as a fundraiser for the Woman’s Literary Union. There are five color choices.
Please call Kathy at 402-7591 and place your order by Aug. 25 for pickup at the Foss Mansion at 19 Elm St. in Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 6.
Proceeds go toward restoration of the Foss Mansion, particularly a much-needed roof repair. To learn more about the mansion and how to join the WLU to enjoy and help with our many activities, contact Kathy Lawrence at 402-7591 or https://www.womansliteraryunion.org.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The North Waterford Congregational Church will hold a public supper at 10 Irving Green Road in Waterford on Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 5-6:30 pm.
The menu includes baked beans, chop suey, coleslaw, casseroles, salads and pies. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. The building is air-conditioned and takeout is available.
Thank you, Sun Spots, for helping us get the word out about our suppers. The funds we raise from these events help us pay the oil bill in winter. — Milly, Waterford
ANSWER: I’m so glad you have found a way to tackle those heating costs — not an easy task! I salute you for your hard work and dedication.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The J & O Irish Museum on Main Street (Route 140) in Hartford is open Sundays from 1-4 p.m. in August.
Our next fundraiser will be the Antique Auto Show on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the East Sumner Congregational Church so, please mark your calendars. Come join us with your antique auto or just to check out the ones that show up. We had over 50 cars last year. There is no entrance fee, and the top four, chosen by the attendees, will go home with a gift basket of homemade jams, relishes and bread.
Thank you, Sun Spots, for all the publicity you give to the Hartford Heritage Society, as we continue to restore the J & O Irish Museum. Also, thank you to everyone who joins us for all our fundraising projects. — No name, no town
ANSWER: This historic building was one of the first stores in the area and is used by the Hartford Historical Society as a museum for their collections.
The folks at the museum are always looking for donations, such as antique tools for the barn and items for the store, especially old spice containers or anything that you think would look good on the shelves. The building was a general store that closed in 1953 with living quarters on the second and third floors.
