Nancy Coshow Molly Ockett NSDAR Chapter Regent and Will Chapman from Bethel Historical Society Museum. Submitted
BRIDGTON — Molly Ockett Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, were honored to receive Will Chapman from the Museum of Bethel Historical Society who presented a lecture on “The Evolving Legacy of Mali Agat (Molly Ockett)”. Chapman, the Executive Director at MBHS, discussed the process from which events become history against the backdrop and contextualization of the Abenaki itinerant healer Mali Agat’s life and the stories which evolved in later generations.
The Chapter is especially thankful to Chapman for enabling the group to learn about and help keep the memory of Mail Agat (Molly Ockett), the namesake of our Chapter, alive today.
David Hale is August’s Patriot of the Month. Hale was born on 24 Nov 1749 in Boxford, MA from whence he responded to the Lexington Alarm. He also served at Cambridge, MA. He married Rachel Foster with whom he had four children who were all born in Bridgton after the family’s arrival in 1779. He settled in South Bridgton at the corner of So. Bridgton and Camp Pondicherry Roads with his large square house, which burned in 1890, on one side of the road and his barn on the other.
Patriots Enoch Perley, also from Boxford, and David’s brother Nathaniel Hale were close neighbors.  He was active in town affairs and was a charter member of the First Church. Hale passed in April 1831 and both Rachel and he are interred at the South Bridgton Cemetery. The Molly Ockett Chapter, NSDAR, honors his service and sacrifice.
