We had many people mistake this large clock mechanism for others around the state, predominantly, the one at Lewiston City Hall. However, the majority of entrants correctly identified the 1856 Howard and Davis Model 2 clock in the clock tower of the Androscoggin County Building at 2 Turner St. in Auburn. The clock has been hand cranked for the past 156 years. The crank has been retrofitted, however, with a modified hand drill to wind the clock faster and more efficiently. In a random drawing from all the correct entries, Darren Cote of Livermore was picked as the winner of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. He told us he recognized it from doing work in the tower on several occasions.
