DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am seeing government policy protests/demonstrations regularly on TV and I would like to know if there are any going on in the Lewiston-Auburn area. — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Here are some web sites you can go to for information. Also, talk with your friends and family who align with your beliefs to see what they are participating in and join. A buddy system is recommended. Brunswick, Freeport and Portland have been quite active with hosting demonstrations and rallies as well if you’re up to traveling a bit.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a library story to share (Aug. 8 Sun Spots). Whenever I’m traveling, I make a point to find a few libraries to visit. I’ve found that librarians are friendly, kind and know so much about their town! I recently was in Monmouth and visited the sweet library there. Cumston Hall has so much history and is so beautiful with all its nooks and crannies! I had a great conversation with the two librarians on duty, enjoyed perusing the book collection, and had a chance to stretch my legs and use the very clean restroom. It was such a peaceful gentle break from being in the vehicle all afternoon and I’ll definitely go back. The town of Monmouth is very fortunate to have such a lovely library. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I agree! I do this when I’m traveling too. I just can’t resist.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A Sun Spotter asked about sharing recipes in the column and I love the idea. Here’s my contribution and I will come up with others. My grandchildren love these and they’re so easy, they have been making them without my help!

Lunch Lady Bars: Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with foil and leave some overhang on the sides to make removing the bars from the pan easier. In a large bowl, melt 1/2 cup butter. Stir in 2 cups confectioners’ sugar, 1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs, Nilla Wafer crumbs, or crushed pretzels, and 1 cup creamy peanut butter (not natural peanut butter). Stir until well-blended then spread the mixture in the lined pan.

In a medium microwave-safe bowl, heat 1 (12-ounce) bag chocolate chips in 30-second intervals until melted and smooth. Spread evenly over peanut butter mixture and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour.

Carefully remove from the pan and slice into 16 bars. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I have made these myself and they are addictive! Be sure to buy a brand of peanut butter like JIF or Skippy for this recipe. You can decorate the tops with more crumbs, colored sprinkles or crushed peanuts. Not only are these bars great for school lunches, but also for picnics. Just keep them in the cooler so the chocolate doesn’t melt.
