A 17-year-old male was arrested and charged with refusing to stop, driving to endanger, operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating under the influence, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and numerous traffic violations, said Lewiston police Lt. Derrick St. Laurent.

The juvenile was transported to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. Due to his criminal history — which includes operating without a license, St. Laurent said — a juvenile community corrections officer authorized his transport.

Around 1:50 a.m. Thursday morning, a patrol officer observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of 7-Eleven at 345 Main St. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, police said.

After about a minute of pursuit through the downtown area, the vehicle jumped the curb at Hope Haven Gospel Mission at the Cedar and Lincoln streets intersection and came to rest against the building.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended by officers, according to police.

Damage to the 209 Lincoln St. building was minimal.
