A local man was flown to a Portland hospital by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter Thursday night after falling from the third floor of a vacant Knox Street apartment house in Lewiston.

Police said 48-year-old Kew Gach Booth was trying to gain entry to the condemned building at 54 Knox St. by climbing to the third floor and searching for unlocked windows.

Witnesses said the man climbed from window to window in his attempts to get inside. At one point while he was moving to another window, police said, Booth slipped and fell roughly 30 feet to the pavement below.

Booth was taken to Central Maine Medical Center before it was decided that the severity of his injuries warranted treatment at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

According to court records, Booth used to live in an apartment at the building from which he fell.

Police said there is nothing suspicious about the fall, although they were continuing to investigate the matter late Thursday night.
