I write to express my sincere thanks to Rep. Rick Mason of Lisbon for his leadership on the Transportation Committee during the first session of the 132nd Maine Legislature. His dedication and efforts to pass thoughtful policies should be applauded.
This session, he helped to protect vital transportation funding, ensuring the Maine Department of Transportation can repair more of our aging roads and bridges. These repairs are essential. According to a 2024 press release from TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit, “fifteen percent of Maine’s rural bridges are rated in poor/structurally deficient condition, the fourth highest rate in the nation” and “eighteen percent of Maine’s rural roads are rated in poor condition — the 12th highest rate in the nation.” Maintaining our infrastructure is imperative for a state like Maine, where people travel far distances for work and school.
It’s encouraging to see legislators like Rep. Mason standing up for common-sense solutions and keeping Maine moving forward. His hard work and advocacy on behalf of his constituents have not gone unnoticed.
