Spencer W. Osgood

JAY – Spencer W. Osgood, 84, of Merritt Island, Fla, passed away from pulmonary fibrosis Monday, August 18, 2025, at his home in Jay with his loving family by his side. He was born on Oct. 3, 1940, in East Dixfield, the son of Roland S. Osgood and Marion (Ellis) Osgood.

He was a 1959 graduate of Wilton Academy. He continued his education at Bentley College of Accounting and Finance, Boston Mass., graduating in 1961. Spencer worked as an Auditor for Uniroyal (US Rubber Company) from 1961-1966 travelling throughout the United States. He moved back to Maine in 1966, taking over the family business of R. S. Osgood & Sons. Opening the new building in 1968, he built the business up with the addition of Kubota tractors and excavators and other equipment manufacturers, as well as additions to the building itself through 2003. Although he officially retired in 2004, he continued to lend a hand with sales and deliveries and gave continuous guidance to his daughter Cindy for the next 20 years.

He was a member of the Wilton Masonic Lodge #156 Maine, a 50-year member in good standing at Kora Shriners in Lewiston, Wilton Lions Club, and AMVETS Post 33 in Jay. He was a Board of director for SAD 9, NEEDA and the special group of Case IH dealers from New England.

Spencer enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, boating, woodworking, mowing, being on his tractor and excavator, going to his “camp” in Bridgewater, Eustis, his yearly board of director meetings with his friends and owners of dealerships in New England, and hosting the weekly Dinner Club with friends in Florida. He traveled throughout the United States with Fran as his navigator – always finding a new route to get from Maine to Florida – the man loved to drive.

He was an incredible businessman and extremely intelligent with a great sense of humor – right until the end. He was a loving companion and father and uncle and was a great friend to many.
