
Jeanne J. Gaccetta
RUMFORD – Jeanne J. Gaccetta, 88, passed away on Aug. 23, 2025 at CMMC Hospital. Jeanne was born in Berlin, N.H. on April 30, 1937, the daughter of Arthur and Marie Jeanne (Langlois) Devost. She lived in Portland before moving to Rumford in the 1940s She attended St. Athanasius School and later graduated in 1955 from Stephens High.
Jeanne was an active member for the Hope Association, Sons of Italy#467 and you may also remember her when she owned and operated the family business Gaccetta & Son Shoe Shop with her husband, Vito. Prior to working at the shoe shop, she worked at the Rumford laundry and Puiia Hardware. In Hope Association, Jeanne and Vito’s work is legendary, Jeanne served on the Board of Directors and on the Briar Patch Greenhouse Board, her secretarial notes were a model of accuracy and precision, and it’s safe to say that she never missed a meeting. Jeanne was a ready worker for the many Hope Association fundraising events and at the Association dances, she was a lively presence on the dance floor. Jeanne and Vito were both named citizen of the year in 2004. Jeanne was a very caring person, she enjoyed crafts, helping others and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jeanne was married in Rumford on June 8, 1963, to Vito Gaccetta who passed away on Sept. 16, 2024.
Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Gaccetta of Rumford, a sister-in-law, Ginny Devost of Bow, N.H., niece Monique Devost and her husband Marcus Hanschen, Michelle Devost and her son Tyler; her cousin, Ann Hamann and her son, Brian Hamann and his wife Amanda and their daughter Maya.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband Vitol; and brothers George, Paul and Albert Devost, brother-in-law, Danny Gaccetta and his wife Rose.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the Parish of the Holy Savior St. Athanasius St. John Church, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford. Interment will take place at the St. John Cemetery in Rumford.
