When I go to the hospital or doctor’s office, I must show a photo ID. Should someone want to purchase items such as liquor or cigarettes they are asked for an ID. I even had to show an ID when shipping a package via FedEx.
What does not make sense is that in the state of Maine we don’t have to show any identification when voting. If we have to show an ID for everyday purchases or activities, surely it should be needed for something as vital as electing our government officials.
Question 1 isn’t about taking away anyone’s rights, but rather to make sure everyone plays by the same rules and ensure our vote is secure.
I will vote “Yes” for voter ID on Nov. 4.
