1. Lewiston: The Blue Devils contend every year, and the 2025 season should be no different for the 2024 Class A North runner-up squad (13-3-1). Midfielder Mechi Mbele and defender Nathan Dimandya are returning Maine Soccer Coaches All-State and All-Region selections, respectively, while midfielders Fernando Bengue, Filipe Kiangala and Pedro Sebastião are also proven standout players.
2. Edward Little: The Red Eddies have made four consecutive Class A North semifinal appearances, and another could be on the way. With three of four starting defenders as well as goalkeeper Max Kimble returning from last year’s 9-6-1 squad, Edward Little should be a solid team defensively. Mudasir Hassan and Cristian Mazina are back to anchor the midfield.
3. Mt. Blue: If you’re looking for a team that could make a leap this year, it might the Cougars, who earned wins over Brewer, John Bapst and York in preseason play. In addition to returning eight starters, including veteran midfielder Nate Zeliger, Mt. Blue also brings in two Spanish foreign-exchange students (Carlos Padin, Angel Gilbis) as well as one from Poland (Wiktor Dziekanowski).
4. Monmouth Academy: With nine starters back from a 12-3-1 team that lost the Class D South final on penalty kicks, Monmouth is the favorite to win the regional crown and possibly a Gold Ball. Midfielders Rory Foyt and Jacob Harmon and forward Bryce Fletcher are returning all-MVC first-team selections for the Mustangs, who also have the MVC Coach of the Year in Joe Fletcher.
5. Mt. Abram: Speaking of MVC contenders, the Roadrunners always seem to be one, and they should challenge again in 2025. Among those back for second-year coach Jason Wing are midfielder Chase Ross and forward Killian Pillsbury, both all-conference picks a year ago. The Roadrunners (12-5 last year) are seeking a fifth consecutive Class C South championship game berth.
