Girls Soccer

Telstar girls soccer coach Katy Crooker, in her first year coaching, reported her team’s first win on Thursday, Sept. 11.

“The rebel women earned their first regular season win last night beating Wiscasset 2-0. Goals were scored by Malia Luis and Kadence Walker, and were assisted by Brooklyn Deprey. Emma McPherson and Karrah Walker had notable performances on defense. In total, the rebels got 13 shots off, (Wiscasset had 2) both saved by goalie Mya Buck.”

An earlier game on Sept. 8 resulted in a loss in a close match. Crooker reported the loss to the students over the intercom at Telstar: “The rebels fought hard against Temple Academy (0-1 loss) on Monday, demonstrating their progress with skills and endurance. Malia Luis and Ayva Jeselskis were significant contributors to the rebel offense. Kadence Walker and Addy Kimball contributed in the midfield. Freshman Sydney Van Buren earned her first Varsity start in this game. The single goal scored by Temple was an impossible top bin shot. In goal, Mya Buck had numerous skilled saves.”

Boys Soccer

Coach Nik Conrad gave his team’s results for a game on Sept. 5: “Last Friday the Telstar boys high school soccer team traveled to Dirigo to start their soccer season. Five minutes into the first half the Rebels opened up scoring with a Mason Perks goal assisted by Cyrus Mills. Cyrus went on to score the next three goals for Telstar with 2 assists coming from Connor Nguyen and Mason Perks and one unassisted. Tommy LaPointe set up Travis Decareau for the boys’ 5th goal with 14 minutes left in the first half.

“Matthew Wakefield substituted and scored next from a pass delivered by Connor Nguyen. Cyrus Mills found Tommy LaPointe who put one in the back of the net to make the score 7-0 Telstar at half time. The Rebels started out fast in the second half with Mason Perks scoring again from another Cyrus Mills assist. Cameron Wright set up Cyrus Mills shortly after making it 9-0. Nick LaPointe scored the last goal for Telstar from a Bryan Savage throw capping off the 10-0 victory.

“The boys look to get revenge for last seasons playoff overtime loss to Temple Academy with their home opener Monday. Come pack the hill and show your support.”

Since that first win, boys soccer has taken down Temple, 3-0 on Sept. 8 and Wiscasset was a W, too, on Sept. 11. That score was Telstar: 6, Wiscasset: 0.

Football

Coach Tim O’Connor said, “The Telstar High School Football (team) defeated Boothbay High School 20-6 in their home opener this past Saturday (Sept. 6). Austin Mosher scored the first touchdown on a 6-yard run in the first quarter and  missed the PAT (point after touchdown). A back and forth game and the score was 6-0 at the half.

“In the third quarter, Alex Dougherty connected with Michael Early on a 40-yard pass for a touchdown and Gage Berry ran in a 2 pts conversion for a 14-0 Telstar lead. In the 4th quarter, Bryson Walker threw a 35-yd touchdown pass to Brennan Walker to make it 20-6 for the final score. The team is 1-0 for the season going into a bye week. (next game is Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. Madawaska Valley) Dakota Cirello was the most improved player for the week and Alex Dougherty was the most valuable player.”
