NORWAY The Social Justice and Peace Commission of St. Catherine of Sienna Church invites you to their Fall Rummage Sale on Saturday, October 11, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the church hall at 32 Paris Street in Norway.
Shoppers will find a wide variety of treasures, including clothing, linens, hand tools, and Christmas décor, all while supporting a worthy cause. Payment will be by donation, and proceeds from the sale will benefit the free, community Thanksgiving dinner, an annual event sponsored by St. Catherine of Sienna Church.
Come early for the best selection, or take a chance at 11 a.m. with a dollar-a-bag special. And, don’t forget to bring your bags. There is ample parking behind the church on Beal Street, and the hall offers handicapped access.
Talks
NORWAY Norway resident and President of the Board of Trustees, Aubrey Lyn Bell, will present a program, Gifts of the People: A Lesson in Indigenous Foodways, on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at Norway Memorial Library, 258 Main Street, Norway. He is bringing foods, including traditional wild rice, squash, beans, hominy, and a bison molé for attendees to sample. His talk will reference Indigenous food books that he will have on display.
Lyn is a member of the Shawnee Nation and has Indigenous roots in the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee and Muskogee Peoples of the Southeast.

NORWAY September is National Healthy Aging Month. Learn about resources and services available to seniors and their families on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m., at Norway Memorial Library, when Diane Woods, LSW, Community Resource Specialist, and Joanne McDonald, Education and Outreach Specialist from SeniorsPlus, will present a talk called “Healthy Aging.”

Psychic
The First Universalist Church of Norway will host “Connections,” an event with the Psychic/Medium Gary McKinstry, Saturday, Oct. 4, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the church’s Concert Hall, 479 Main Street, in Norway. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
Tickets for this benefit fundraiser event may be purchased now through Eventbrite – Gary McKinstry, $35 p/p, non-refundable but transferable. Psychic/Medium Gary McKinstry connects with loved ones from the other side in a gallery setting. He is known internationally, throughout New England, and is a Norway resident. In addition to gallery-style readings, “Connections” will include many raffles, a 50/50 drawing, reading gift certificates, and light refreshments for purchase. Join family and friends on Saturday, Oct. 4, at “Connections,“ an entertaining evening for everyone!

Gardening webinar
University of Maine Cooperative Extension will conclude its Fall Gardening Webinar Series with “A Beginner’s Guide to Composting” on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 7:15 p.m.
Led by Nick Rowley, UMaine Extension sustainable agriculture and horticulture professional, this webinar will introduce participants to the fundamentals of composting at home. Topics will include how to start and maintain a healthy compost pile, troubleshooting common issues, and how to use finished compost to improve soil health and support plant growth. Designed for gardeners of all levels, this session will offer practical, accessible tips for anyone looking to reduce waste and build healthier gardens.

Peaceful Means, a musical duo featuring Heather Pierson and Leah Boyd, invites people to gather for an afternoon of music, communication, and community at Deering Memorial Community Center on Saturday, September 27, from 1-4 p.m. Admission by donation. The Center is on Church Street in Paris, across from the Paris Library.
