Lily King

The Thursday Island Reading Series continues its stellar fall season in October with celebrated novelist Lily King. Thursday Island—a collaboration between Devany Doak and Garrett Booksellers, Twice Sold Tales, and The Rustica Journal—invites authors to read their work and, in the spirit of classic Maine summer camps, share a skill or craft with the audience.

On Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at Twice Sold Tales, Lily King will read from her brand new book “Heart the Lover” and lead us in exploring the art and craft of letter writing. Beer, wine, and copies of Lily King’s books will be available for purchase.

Written with superb wit and emotional sensitivity, “Heart the Lover” is a deeply moving story that celebrates love, friendship, and the transformative nature of forgiveness. Wise, unforgettable, and with a delightful connective thread to “Writers & Lovers”, this is King at her very best, affirming her as a masterful chronicler of the human experience.

King is known as one of the most “brilliant” (New York Times Book Review), “wildly talented” (Chicago Tribune), and treasured authors of contemporary fiction. She is the award-winning author of six novels—”Heart the Lover”, “Writers & Lovers”, “Euphoria”, “Father of the Rain”, “The English Teacher”, and “The Pleasing Hour”—and the short story collection “Five Tuesdays in Winter”.

On Thursday, Nov. 20, beloved author, scholar, and educator Kristen Case will close out the Thursday Island Reading Series’ fall season.
