NEWRY —A 72-year-old North Yarmouth man is expected to live after shooting himself with a rifle Tuesday evening at Brookside Condos at Sunday River Ski Resort.
James Urquhart, chief deputy for the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, said the man left his condo unit with a .22-caliber rifle, walked through the parking lot, sat on the grass and shot himself. The incident was witnessed by several people.
A resident of Brookside Condos reported the incident to the Oxford County Regional Communications Center at 7:04 p.m. Oxford County deputies treated the man, who was talking to emergency personnel at the scene. Med-Care transported the him to Central Maine Medical Center and he is expected to survive, Urquhart said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
