DEAR SUN SPOTS: I love your column and all the help you give to your readers. I hope you can help me with my question. A while back I read a column about Amato’s Restaurants. I thought it said it was possible to send their food to other states. I can’t figure out how to do so and the workers I’ve spoken to have no idea. I want to send some sandwich fixings to my relatives out of state and would gladly accept any help you could give me. — No name, no town

ANSWER: Amato’s! I got hooked on those sandwiches when one of my daughters moved to a house in Bath where the famous Maine sandwich shop was right across the street! We’d pick up our sandwiches and enjoy them at the park on the Kennebec River. Now that’s a wonderful memory.

When I received this letter, I called Amato’s catering and delivery department at 774-3975, ext. 1 and spoke with a cheery, helpful customer service representative.

Kayla assured me that Amato’s does deliver their sandwich fixings anywhere in the country. The famous ingredients are packaged separately so recipients can assemble their sandwiches at home and enjoy them freshly put together. The charge is calculated per sandwich with an extra $15 fee for the packaging and box, plus the cost of shipping.

If you would like to save some money, you can simply send a package of the fluffy rolls we all love that come six to the bag along with Amato’s sour pickles and the special sandwich oil. With these ingredients on hand, sandwiches can be put together with added ham, cheese and veggies purchased from your local grocery store. You may want to also send along their favorite flavor of Humpty Dumpty potato chips and a six-pack of Moxie to make this much-loved Maine meal complete! Either way, Amato’s sandwich fixings make a great gift for someone who is a fan.

For more information, go to the company’s website at https://www.amatos.com/shop/. You’ll see other items that can be shipped such as marinara and pizza sauces, Italian salad dressing, whoopie pies, and even T-shirts.
