Fire breaks through the roof and windows of a home and barn Sunday evening at 15 Park St. in West Paris Chuck Blaquiere photo

WEST PARIS — A three-alarm fire consumed a house and barn at 15 Park St. in West Paris on Sunday evening, according to Troy Billings, chief of the West Paris Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, resulting from a faulty wood-burning stove, and took three and a half hours to subdue, Billings said.

An excavator demolished the buildings during an additional three and a half hours of overhaul, Billings said. A firefighter directing traffic was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital with back injuries, he added.

A cat belonging to the residents was reportedly trapped in the burning building and has yet to be located, Billings said.

Oxford, Norway, Paris, Hebron, Buckfield, Sumner, Canton, Mexico, Bethel, Woodstock and Greenwood fire departments provided mutual aid.
