100 Years Ago: 1922
Miss Doris Spaulding and Master Byron Harradon of the Webster Grammar School have each received a five-dollar gold piece from Mrs. M.R. McCallum, president of the W.C.T.U. of Auburn. Sometime ago the W.C.T.U. gave notice that prizes would be awarded to those pupils who wrote the best composition on the injurious effects of tobacco. The competition was open to Auburn schools and many students, other than Miss Spaulding and Master Harradon, were cited for their good work.
50 Years Ago: 1972
Peter Marczak of Auburn has been named coordinator of the Auburn Parks of the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department summer program, according to an announcement by Norris Ingersoll, APRD superintendent. In his position he will coordinate the activities of the Auburn playground program and other summer activities, which get underway Tuesday.
25 Years Ago: 1997

Sun Journal photo) Adult education director Bette Thibeault hugs one of her honor graduates, Deborah Mason, prior to the start of the Adult Education and River Valley School graduation ceremony held in Greene on Friday. Mason, who realized her dream of getting her high school diploma after 30 years, hopes to continue her education in the computer field.
