LEWISTON — More than 440 individuals gathered at Central Maine Community College on May 22 to remember a loved one and help raise funds to support patient care at the Hospice House. The event raised $17,890 which is dedicated to the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice KMW Fund which supports care at the Hospice House for patients with limited health insurance.
One hundred thirty-nine people ranging in age from 6 to 79 ran in the 5k and more than 300 participated in the walk. Overall female winners of the 5k race were Kari Laird, first place with a time of 22:13, and Jamie Attardo, second place with a time of 23:24. Overall male winners were TJ Niles, first place with a time of 18:05, and Dave Howard, second place with a time of 19:11.
In addition to a new location in 2011, participants were treated to music along the course, and balloons inscribed with the names of loved ones lined the route, making the event more meaningful.
The major sponsor was Baxter Brewing. Additional events sponsors were Austin Associates, Gendron & Gendron, H.E. Callahan, Poland Spring Water, The Fortin Group, The Medicine Shoppe, T & M Commercial Lending, Designs by Skip and Easy Rent-All.
Planning is underway for next year’s Hospice House 5k Race & Remembrance Walk. The date of May 20 has tentatively been reserved at Central Maine Community College.
