House Republicans brought the government to the brink of a shutdown before some members compromised with Democrats. U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz turned on their elected speaker to have him ousted from his position because U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy accepted help from Democrats.

In the Senate, Republicans are allowing one senator to hold up 300 nominees for military appointments threatening our military preparedness.

Republicans claim to be the party of Abraham Lincoln, but they are not. Lincoln was a statesman and politician who knew that to govern our nation, he had to work and compromise with those who didn’t agree with him. Republicans, especially those in the House, have shown no such inclination to govern.

They claim they want to control spending and balance the budget, yet their main idea is to pass tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthy and cut programs that benefit our less fortunate members of society.

A large number perpetuate lies about a rigged 2020 election. Except for a lone voice or two, they refuse to call out the leader of their party for his lies and hateful, inflammatory speech.

In six weeks we face another possible shutdown. Some House Republicans have the attitude that would not be a big deal. These are people who are ignorant of the danger this presents to our economy and country.

House Republicans seem to be doing their best to tear down what our country has become over the past 250 years.
