Owen Sherman Donnell
AUBURN – Owen Sherman Donnell, 67, a resident of Leeds, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024 at Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn, following complications from a Dec. 18, 2023 automobile accident.
He was born April 5, 1956, in Bath, the son of Walter Owen Donnell and June Maud (Mitchell) Donnell. His family moved from Bath to Leeds in 1970. He attended schools in Bath and Turner, graduating from Leavitt Area High School in 1975.
Owen worked as a custodian for SAD # 52, starting in 1975 at the Greene Central School. He then transferred to the new Turner Elementary School where he worked until 2019 when he had to retire due to his health.
Owen was a very talented musician, playing both drums and guitar and performed in many different bands through the years. His lasting legacy was how his passion for music inspired him to volunteer his time to teach many children the skills of reading music and playing instruments.
Owen was also very artistic and helped to prepare props for plays and other functions. Owen was a very kindhearted soul and friend to many and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his brother, Burton Walter Donnell of Leeds, his sister, Brenda June Gould and husband Ken of Wayne; nephew, Paul, nieces June Gould and Sharon Simoneau and husband Ron; great-nephew, Derrick Gould, great-niece, Alanna Simoneau and Patty’s son, Nelson Chikazawa. Owen also had many extended family members and friends, as well as many who looked up to him as a mentor and referred to him as “Uncle O”.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his soulmate, Patty Chikazawa.
