RUMFORD — Robin Baxman led a five-goal assault in the first half that sent Mountain Valley to a 5-0 rout over Carrabec in MVC boys’ soccer action Tuesday.
Shawn Bennett, Tucker Phelps and Austin Glover also tallied for the Falcons (2-3-1) to complete the scoring.
Kyle Gauvin and promising freshman Dakota Jacques combined for seven saves to notch the win, while John Layman turned aside 10 shots in goal for the Cobras (0-5-1).
Mt. Abram 3, Telstar 0
BETHEL — The Mt. Abram boys’ soccer squad got revved up early Tuesday, putting up two goals in the first frame and pulling away to a 3-0 victory over Telstar.
Ian James and Robert Rivers each tallied for the Roadrunners in the first frame, while Alex Lopez scored off a corner kick to cap the scoring.
Veteran keeper Josh Beedy needed only three saves to notch the shutout. Rick James turned back seven shots between the posts for winless Telstar (0-5).
Mt. View 6, Leavitt 0
TURNER — Senior Zoli Kertesz scored a pair of second half goals to put the game out of reach as Mt. View coasted to a 6-0 victory over Leavitt in KVAC boys’ soccer action Tuesday.
The Mustangs (5-1) trotted to a 2-0 halftime lead. Kertesz flicked the second half’s opening goal off his heel and scored again two minutes later.
Tim Bennet recorded a goal and three assists in the winning effort.
Goalie Ben Fullerton made four saves for the Hornets (0-5-1), while goalie Chris Montimony restricted all scoring efforts with three saves to earn the shutout in net for Mt. View.
Dirigo 2, Spruce Mtn. 1
DIXFIELD — T.J. Frost converted a pass from Chad Snowman with just one minute left in the first half to lift Dirigo to a narrow 2-1 win over Spruce Mountain in a MVC boys’ soccer tilt Tuesday.
Frost was also credited with the Cougars’ (5-1) first goal earlier in the frame. Caleb Turner made five saves for Ddirigo to record the win.
Jake Freeman scored for the Phoenix in the second half, while Ethan Hutchins turned aside 10 shots between the posts.
Belfast 4, Oak Hill 0
BELFAST — Striker Yanni Rakis scored a pair of goals to lead Belfast to a 4-0 victory over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ soccer action Tuesday.
The Lions (4-2) contolled the offensive action in the first half, scoring three goals in the frame. The Raiders (2-4) struggled throughout the contest, but faired a tad better in the second half, giving up only one goal.
Goalie Sam Morin made 15 saves for Oak Hill, while goalie Tyler Baker only needed one prevent to earn the shutout victory in net for Belfast.
Hampden 2, Mt. Blue 0
HAMPDEN — Cooper Antone broke a scoreless deadlock on a penalty kick with 22 minutes remaining to lift Hampden to a 2-0 victory over Mt. Blue in a KVAC boys’ soccer game.
Hampden added an insurance goal in the final minute on Tristan Gardiner’s shot.
Matt Crowley kept things close by making nine saves in goal for the Cougars (3-2). Hampden keeper Lucas Poirier stopped seven shots.
Poland 4, Wells 1
WELLS — Poland scored three goals in the first half to take command en route to a 4-1 boys’ soccer victory over Wells.
Logan Nichols, Dan Bernier and Rick Bryant scored for the Knights beforte intermission. Alex Corcoran added an insurance goal in the seocnd half.
Dillon Douglas made eight saves for Poland (2-5).
York 5, Gray-NG 2
YORK — Brian Mendoza scored two goals to spark York to a 5-2 triumph over Gray-New Gloucester.
Will Bartlett and Jack Martell scored for the Patriots (4-2).
York improves to 5-1-1.
