Jacob Gallant of Auburn Public Works retrieves equipment Monday after the last tree was cut down along Hillcrest Street in Auburn. Over the past week, several large trees have been cut down on a steep embankment between Hillcrest and Gamage Avenue to allow for a project to take place. Auburn officials Tuesday said the work is part of a “wall replacement project, but the portion of the road adjacent to the wall will need to be repaired due to the excavation work needed to replace the wall.” Officials say $250,000 has been budgeted for the project.
