DEAR SUN SPOTS: What happened to the Freihofer Bakery Outlet on Landry Avenue? I would go there every other Friday for muffins and cakes. I drove in last week and nobody was there. Did they go to another location? — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: It makes me sad to tell you this but all the Freihofer Bakery Outlets have closed. There was a short article about it in the Sun Journal on April 18. Parent company Bimbo Bakeries USA has closed 28 outlets in New York and New England recently due to having “increased efficiency, (so the company) has less product to offer to the thrift stores and will now donate any extra product to local food bank partners.
At least the food banks will benefit from the decision so that’s a good thing.
