Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has agreed to a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension with the Miami Dolphins, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.
The deal includes $76 million guaranteed and keeps Waddle under contract through the 2028 season.
Waddle will now become one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL after three productive seasons to start his pro career.
Waddle, drafted sixth overall out of Alabama in 2021, had his third straight 1,000-yard receiving season in 2023. He set a rookie record with 104 catches in 2021, along with 1,015 yards and six touchdowns. He followed that with a career-best 1,356 yards in 2022, averaging a league-high 18.1 yards per catch.
• Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs turned himself in to the Tuscaloosa County Jail on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
Buggs was later released on $600 bond for two counts of cruelty to dogs in the second degree.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department found two dogs that were “seriously malnourished” and “emaciated” March 28 on the back porch of a house that Buggs had rented, according to court documents. The court filings reported that a neighbor said a pitbull and a Rotweiler mix had been left there for at least 10 days and had no access to food or water.
The pitbull was eventually euthanized. Witnesses said Buggs had moved out of the house on or about March 19.
HORSE RACING
BELMONT: Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness runner-up Mystik Dan is on track to run in the third leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga on June 8, trainer Kenny McPeek said.
McPeek is not yet ready to commit to entering Mystik Dan, much like he waited on his decision in the Preakness, but he figures to make the call by the end of the weekend.
“We want to run,” McPeek said on a conference call with reporters hosted by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. “We do. We’ve just got to make sure that all boxes are checked and T’s are crossed and I’s are dotted.”
Mystik Dan in the Belmont would set up a rematch against Derby second-place finisher Sierra Leone and Preakness winner Seize the Grey, who are also likely to be in the field.
The Belmont will be 1 1/4 miles this year because of the shape of the track at Saratoga, which is home to the race this year and next because the final Triple Crown leg’s traditional home downstate in New York is undergoing a $455 million reconstruction.
SOCCER
MLS: Ghana international winger Osman Bukari will join Austin FC in a transfer from Red Star Belgrade, the Major League Soccer team announced.
Bukari, 25, joins Austin on a 3 1/2-year guaranteed contract as one of the team’s Designated Player signings, with an option for 2028. The move comes a week after Austin waived Designated Player Emiliano Rigoni and bought out the remainder of the Argentine’s guaranteed contract of more than $2 million this season. Rigoni scored six goals in 51 matches with Austin.
COLLEGES
GOLF: Florida State’s Cole Anderson of Camden won the opening match in the finals of the NCAA championship Wednesday in Carlsbad, California, but top-ranked Auburn won the last three matches to take a 3-2 victory over Florida State, preventing the Seminoles from capturing their first national title.
Anderson held on for a 1-up victory in his match against Carson Bacha after building a 3-up lead with three holes remaining. Bacha birdied the 16th and 17th holes but missed a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th.
SOFTBALL: Kinzie Hansen homered and knocked in three runs, and three-time defending national champion Oklahoma opened its title defense with a 9-1 win over Duke in six innings in the Women’s College World Series at Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma will play No. 6 seed UCLA on Saturday, with the winner reaching the semifinals. Duke will play No. 14 Alabama in an elimination game on Friday.
• Jordan Woolery’s three-run homer in the sixth lifted No. 6 UCLA to a 4-1 win over No. 14 Alabama.
• Teagan Kavan threw a one-hitter, and No. 1 seed Texas defeated Stanford 4-0.

Jewell Loyd had 22 points and Skylar Diggins-Smith added 18 points and nine assists as the Storm (5-3) scored a season high in points. Nneka Ogwumike scored 17 for the Storm.
