Jannik Sinner made his debut at No. 1 in the ATP rankings Monday, moving up one spot to pass Novak Djokovic.
Sinner, 22, is the first player from Italy to reach No. 1 since the computerized rankings began in 1973. He will be the top-seeded man at Wimbledon, where play begins July 1.
Iga Swiatek’s third consecutive French Open championship allowed her to increase what already was a large lead at No. 1 in the WTA rankings. Coco Gauff climbed to a career-high No. 2 from No. 3.
OLYMPICS
SALT LAKE CITY: Organizers for the proposed 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City released their first budget estimate, projecting total costs of just under $4 billion, with $2.84 billion slated for operational items.
The committee said even though there will be 40% more events than the last time Salt Lake City hosted the Olympics, the number for operational costs for 2034 is 1% lower than 2002 when adjusted for inflation.
BASKETBALL: Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets was included on Serbia’s 16-man preliminary roster for the Paris Olympics, ending doubts he would skip the tournament. Also on the list are Charlotte guard Vasilije Micic, Miami forward Nikola Jovic, Atlanta sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic and Hornets forward Aleksej Pokusevski.
TRACK AND FIELD
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS: Natalia Kaczmarek of Poland clocked 48.98 seconds in Rome to mark the third straight day a woman has cracked 49 seconds in the 400 meters.
Nickisha Pryce of Jamaica got it started with a 48.89 for Arkansas at the NCAA championships Saturday. Then Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of the United States responded with a 48.75 in New York on Sunday
GOLF
HALL OF FAME: Padraig Harrington, whose 21 worldwide wins include the British Open in 2007 and 2008, and the PGA Championship in 2008, joined LPGA star Sandra Palmer as the only living inductees at a ceremony in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
LPGA great Beverly Hanson, former British Open champion and golf course architect Tom Weiskopf, and former U.S. Open champion Johnny Farrell were inducted posthumously. Also being inducted were the remaining seven founders of the LPGA Tour — Alice Bauer, Bettye Danoff, Helen Dettweiler, Helen Hicks, Opal Hill, Sally Sessions and Shirley Spork.

SPANISH LEAGUE: Three Valencia fans were handed eight-month prison sentences after pleading guilty to racially insulting Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior in the first conviction for racism-related cases in professional soccer in Spain.
BASKETBALL
NBA: Former Lakers coach Darvin Ham, who had considered taking the upcoming season off, will become an assistant to Coach Doc Rivers in Milwaukee.
Ham, who the Lakers fired after two seasons, will return to the top assistant spot with the Bucks.
BASEBALL
MAJOR LEAGUES: Juan Soto was back in the New York Yankees’ lineup as the designated hitter against the Kansas City Royals after missing a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers because of left forearm inflammation.
Aaron Judge, who started the Yankees’ first 67 games, was given a night off from the starting lineup. Soto was in the No. 2 slot and Anthony Rizzo was left out of the lineup for the second straight game.
