100 Years Ago: 1924

Henry Cloutier, proprietor of Cloutier’s Market Lisbon Street was adjudged guilty of speeding, Tuesday morning in the Lewiston municipal court, but sentence was suspended when he explained that he had been travelling 25 miles an hour on Pine in order to carry a priest from the Dominican monastery to a patient in the St. Mary’s hospital, that he might administer the last rights of the Catholic church.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Lewiston Police Capt. and Mrs. Anthony N. Emmi of Old Greene Road, Lewiston, were the guests of honor at a party given on Tuesday evening in the Heritage Room at Steckino’s Restaurant in observance of their silver wedding anniversary.

25 Years Ago: 1999

The 1998 Spurwink Trustee Award has been presented to Melvin Curtis, director of special education in the Lewiston School Department for nearly 20 years. The award, presented at the Spurwink School’s annual meeting held in Portland, recognizes “people providing for the human potential.”
