DEAR SUN SPOTS: Lewiston/Auburn Senior College is back this fall with a new look. If you’re over 50, come explore and enjoy! Since Senior College has become a nonprofit, we’ve been looking into a few new venues.

This fall we will continue to have Zoom classes but will also offer more in-person classes at Schooner Estates, Auburn-Lewiston Airport, Clover Manor, Temple Shalom and the Auburn Public Library. We will continue to coordinate with the library for Senior College in the Community on Tuesday afternoons.

Here’s a brief look at our one-day classes: Larry Canepa is back with three fascinating demonstrations about food and cooking from different cultures. John Cleveland will moderate a conversation with Mayor Jeffery Harmon.

We will take virtual visits to the Nile with Bill Phillips, to Monhegan Island with Peggy Volock, and to North Dakota with our returning travelogue specialist, Eve Fralick.

Alan Elze takes a new look at “The Wizard of Oz,” both the book and the movie. There are two game nights, and Bettyanne Sheats will teach us about responsible voting.

We’ll also be given a rare opportunity by Judy Hierstein to learn about international signs and symbols. Our visits to Temple Shalom will be hosted by Rabbi Sruli Dresdner, who will teach us about Judaism and Chanukah. And don’t miss Loring Danforth’s bird watching presentation. We may add more choices before the season starts.

Individual and Community with Jean Potuchek; Discussions and Simulations of 19th Century European History with Anita Denis; Ayn Rand’s Passage Through the 20th Century with Mike Brakey; The Social Gospel of Jesus: Deep Human History with Steve Piker; She Doesn’t Like Fantasy (reading and discussing four books) with Peggy Volock; Lessons in Chemistry with Laura Sturgis; Art Party with Anita Poulin; Phun with Physics with Hugh Keene; The Forest and the Trees with Katherine Hunter; I Remember: Flash Memoir Workshop with Barbara Gravinese; Malaga Island and This Other Eden: A Tragedy of Racism and Eugenics with Gale Eaton.

ANSWER: That’s quite the line-up of options and I see many classes I’d be interested in myself. Some classes are on Zoom, some are hybrid classes, and some are in-person. There’s so much to choose from!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m sure you have posted this a number of times but I didn’t need the information then and now I do. I’m looking for dressmakers in the area who can do alterations.

Whenever we need info, we know where to go. Thank you for all you do for all the readers. We appreciate it and I know lots of people who read Sun Spots first before anything else. —No name, no town
