DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s 2024 Golden Paw Awards promises to be an evening filled with entertainment and fun; however, the true highlight will be the Awards Presentation.
Included in the lineup are:
• The Future Hero Award, sponsored by Vicky and Jan Wiegman, which recognizes a child in our community who not only demonstrates a love for animals, but also works toward a more humane world, and is nominated and chosen by community members.
• Most Memorable Pet Award, sponsored by Rarebreed Veterinary Partners and presented to a pet who has left a lasting impression on GAHS and our community.
• Superhero Volunteer Award, sponsored by Ripley and Fletcher Ford and presented to a true star among our volunteer team, chosen by GAHS staff.
• Superhero Foster Award, sponsored by Northeast Bank, recognizes someone who has taken fostering to a new level and is chosen by GAHS staff.
• Pets & People Award, sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka, honors a community member who works on behalf of animals and those who love them, strengthening the human/animal bond.
• Cynthia Crocker “Above and Beyond” Award, sponsored by Ron and Joanne Lebel, celebrates an individual who has offered long-standing support to the mission of GAHS and is committed to helping create a humane, animal-loving community.
We would love to have you join us Thursday, Sept. 12, to applaud this year’s winners and partake in the fun, including our Silent Auction, Comedy, Shelter Trivia, and a performance by Maine’s own Julia Gagnon.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Edward Little High School Class of 1964 Reunion Committee is planning its 60-year reunion for Saturday, Sept. 28.
We have reached out to as many classmates as we could via email, but some people may not have received our email because of wrong addresses or the invitation may have gone to their junk mail.
The committee is planning to retire after this reunion, so let’s have a great turn out! If you have any questions and would like to attend, call me at 207-557-0350 and leave a message, or email Bob Brickel at [email protected]. — Ann, no town
ANSWER: High school reunion organizers always work very hard to get in touch with their classmates, especially when a big event draws near. Be sure to let them know if you plan to attend and please help spread the word.
