
Vito Gaccetta
RUMFORD – Vito Gaccetta, 92, passed away on Sept. 16, 2024, at the Rumford Hospital. Vito was born in Rumford on Sept. 15, 1932, the son of Rocco and Rosaria (Sorrenti) Gaccetta. He attended St. Athanasius School and later graduated in 1952 from Stephens High.
Vito was an active member for the Hope Association since 1968 and served on the Board of Directors for many of those years. He was also chairman of the planning committee for Fourth Street home when it was built. He was instrumental in the purchase of Saint Rocco Hall that housed the Adult Activity Center prior to the Armory. He attended meetings with the executive director for town appropriations and is also the chairman of the Bingo fundraiser, which he ran and attended every Sunday. Vito spent countless hours volunteering for numerous projects to support the Hope Association. He was a member of Gorizia Lodge # 467, Sons of Italy and was a member of the Senior Citizens. He also enjoyed woodworking. In 2008 Vito received an award from the Rumford Selectman and Town Manager as Rumford’s Citizen of the year. You may also remember Vito from when he operated and owned the family business Gaccetta & Son for many years.
Vito was married in Rumford on June 8, 1963 to Jeanne Devost, who survives in Rumford.
Other survivors include his daughter, Catherine Gaccetta of Rumford; sister-in-law, Virginia Devost of Bow, N.H.; a nephew, Danny Gaccetta and wife Ruthann, nieces Ann Hamann and son Brian and his wife Amanda and their daughter Maya; Monique Devost and husband Marcus and their daughter Kai; Michelle Devost and son Tyler.
He was predeceased by brother, Daniel and sister-in-law, Rose Gaccetta and brothers-in-law George, Paul and Albert Devost.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday Sept. 20 at the Parish of the Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford. Interment will take place at the St. John Cemetery in Rumford.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., in Rumford.
