That’s one of the reasons why the new Dorothy Larrabee Youth Development Fund, which will help New Beginnings in Lewiston, was named for her.

She also contributed the program’s seed money, $12,000.

“Dot has been in on every innovative and new youth program that’s been developed over the years in Lewiston-Auburn, in one way or another,” said Bob Rowe, executive director of New Beginnings, a group that helps and houses troubled teens.

“She’s been a very strong supporter of the YWCA, a founder and member of the board of Advocates for Children, a founder and advocate for New Beginnings,” Rowe said. “She has been the chair of what used to be the Androscoggin County Community Coordinating Council. “That is where a lot these things sprang from. It was her leadership and her drive that kept things going.”
