100 years ago, 1911

Hill Crest Hospital, Auburn, has recently been enlarged and is now open to both male and female patients. Mrs. Lilla J. Jordan who is at the head of this institution, originally intended the hospital for women only but so frequent and pressing have been the demands for the admission of male patients, that she has had the hospital enlarged and a men’s ward has been established.

50 years ago, 1961

George Parker, enforcement officer of the Auburn Parking District, got some unwelcome help yesterday from a boy residing on James Street. Parker had gone along the street and chalked tires of cars parked there. A short time later some of the cars had moved and some others had parked. The boy reportedly went down the street chalking tires of the vehicles, resulting in some tickets being issued to vehicles which had not been there when Parker originally checked for parking violators. The boy was spotted by an off-duty Auburn police officer.

25 years ago, 1986

Lewiston High School will be without a ski program this winter unless coaching vacancies can be filled.

“We have 50 kids who are ready to ski,” said Lewiston athletic director Dave Cannan, “But we don’t have any coaches.”

LHS is looking for a head coach for the alpine program, a head coach for the cross country program and an assistant coach for both programs.

The head coaches will be paid $1,575 while the assistant will earn $945.
