100 Years Ago: 1925

A gray horse owned by Edmond Ouelette of Lewiston Junction which either wandered off or was stolen from Lincoln street, Sunday while the owner was attending church, was recovered Monday near the Bates College campus by the Lewiston police. The wagon was reported to be still missing however.

50 Years Ago: 1975

Sunday afternoon, authorities were informed that there were six dead cows in a field alongside the Androscoggin riverbank, near 1775 Minot Ave. Patrolman Maurice Laprise said it appeared the animals, apparently dumped there by a tractor, had been dead some time. He asked the Health Department personnel to check into the matter and determine how the animals died, and why they weren’t buried.

25 Years Ago: 2000

Joe Cupo, meteorologist with Channel 6 WSCH TV, will speak when the National Association of Retired Federal Employees on Tuesday, Feb. 29, at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. Cupo will speak on the shortcoming of weather forecasting and will answer questions after his talk.

He has been with Channel 6 since 1979. He has a master’s degree in atmospheric science from the University at Albany, N.Y., and he has been a member of the American Meteorological Society since 1974.

His favorite hobby is biking and every year he participates in the Great Bicycle Escape with proceeds sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Cupo has visited many schools in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

He lives in Falmouth with his wife, who works for the TV station doing home decorating segments in the morning.
