LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women invites the community to join a conversation, “Wise Women Pray: Faith in Times of Adversity,” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in The Chapel at 143 Blake St.
This event will feature a discussion moderated by Elizabeth Park, a hospice chaplain from Andwell Health Partners dedicated to offering support to those navigating crisis and grief, according to a news release from Tricia Tomlinson with the center.
Joining Park will be two women leaders in faith in the community: the Rev. Sarah Gillespie and the Rev. Dr. Jodi Hayashida. They will explore the role of faith during times of adversity, drawing on their extensive experience in pastoral care, social justice, and spiritual leadership.

Hayashida, who served for over 20 years at the First Universalist Church of Auburn, is organizing a statewide movement, Multi-faith Justice Maine, under the Maine People’s Alliance. She is also a board member of the Maine Council of Churches and serves as tri-chair of the Maine Poor People’s Campaign. Hayashida is engaged with the harm reduction community and committed to promoting justice through a multi-faith lens.

Gillespie, a board-certified chaplain and Unitarian Universalist minister, leads a hospice chaplain team at Andwell Health Partners. Her work focuses on helping individuals and families navigate the end-of-life journey, addressing the complex emotions of death, grief and loss. An advocate for meaningful conversations around what truly matters, Gillespie balances her demanding work with creative outlets such as singing, baking, and enjoying the outdoors with loved ones.
The evening will feature discussion between these two leaders, with an opportunity for audience questions.
This event is free and open to the public; donations are welcome. All are encouraged to attend, listen, and engage in this enriching conversation about faith, resilience and the power of community support during adversity.
