DEAR SUN SPOTS: The SHAREcenter is accepting musical instrument donations as they partner with Maine Public Radio and Music & Magic of Maine to assist with their Musical Instrument Drive, their annual giveaway for students in need in central and southern Maine. The instruments are provided to students free of charge and leftover instruments are donated to local school music programs.
We are accepting all band, string and percussion instruments. Electric keyboards and instrument stands are also accepted but we are not accepting acoustic pianos or home electric organs due to the size and weight of them.
The SHAREcenter is also in need of clean yogurt cups and plastic food containers with lids to use as germinators on seedling trays.
Art teachers and early elementary teachers also love to use yogurt cups for art projects. Styrofoam trays of various sizes are also great for using to distribute paint to students.
ANSWER: The SHAREcenter is once again accepting donations during its regular business hours Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
The new location is at the Market Place Mall at 675 Main St. across from Sam’s Italian and to the right of Fueled by Nutrition in Lewiston. People are encouraged to stop by and check out all the resources available for classrooms and/or organizations.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I used the wrong phone for Curt in my letter about the young girl looking for assistance with softball pitching. It is 577-1718. I am so sorry. — Louise, no town
ANSWER: No worries, Louise. These things happen. Here is your letter once more (below) with the correct information included. Let us know what happens.
We have been trying to find someone to work with a young girl to help her improve her softball pitching skills. She will be 11 years old this summer.
It has been difficult to find anyone and we are hoping you can help. There seems to be plenty of people and places offering help for boys pitching but few for girls.
We did contact two individuals we saw online but neither of them has responded yet.
We thought that perhaps a softball coach or a softball player at Bates College might be willing to help, but we have been unsuccessful in contacting anyone there.
Can you help us find someone at Bates College or is there anyone else willing to help this young lady? We will pay the going rate.
Please call Curt at 577-1718 if you are interested or know of someone who is. — Louise, no town
