Terence E. Nadeau

GRAY – Terence E. Nadeau, 78, passed away after a long illness on March 5, 2025 at his home in Gray. His daughter, Stephanie, son, Todd and granddaughter, Lillian were with him as he took his last breath. Terry was a native of Sabattus and was born on Nov. 8, 1946. Terry was the only son of Hector and Maxine Nadeau of Sabattus.

Terry enjoyed an active childhood in the Village of Sabattus. He played baseball and basketball all the way up through high school with the Sabattus Chieftains. When Terry went skiing at Sunday River with his father, he always made sure the family station wagon was full of his Sabattus friends.

Terry was always proud of his native Sabattus, and was a leader in organizing great competitions between boys from both ends of the town. All sports, including croquet, badminton and push cart races were arranged by Terry.

Terry graduated from Sabattus schools and was very active in his high school class in all respects. He moved on to graduate from the University of Maine, class of 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He was a well-known student at UMaine, and was an avid bridge player in his spare time on and off the Orono campus.

His father introduced him to the sport of golf at a young age and Terry was a long-time member, 70-plus years, of Martindale Country Club in Auburn.

It was at Martindale that Terry shot the ultimate of any golfer when he notched a hole-in-one on the very difficult eleventh hole. He played golf at some of the top golf courses in the United States and Europe, including Pebble Beach and St. Andrews. Golf was a major part of his life and he will be missed terribly by his foursome members Red, Richard and Bob.

Moving back to settle in Lewiston, Terry married Suzanne and they raised two children, Stephanie and Todd. He was a devoted father and was always driving Stephanie to dance class, being the pack leader of Todd’s boy scout troop, throwing a baseball or softball in the front yard or cheering them on in whatever adventure they tried. He was always there with a joke, advice or a shoulder for them to lean on.

Working for the Model Cities program after college, Terry met Stephen Griswold and the two embarked on a multi-decade partnership in real estate development that spanned from New Hampshire to Downeast Maine.

Terry later married Tori and got two bonus sons, Ben and Heath. He loved them like his own children and enjoyed his years helping to raise them. Special to Terry were his canine friends Gus and Golly, his beloved Scottish Terriers.

In his final years, he was able to live at home with the help of his daughter and her partner, Joshua Robertson. Joshua and Terry became fast friends and enjoyed their time together. They bonded over cooking shows and the nightly routine became Joshua cooking new recipes and then eating together in the living room, laughing and watching TV.

Terry was predeceased by his parents Hector and Maxine Nadeau; Uncle Gerald Scott, Aunt Lorene Scott, Uncle Eugene Deslauriers, aunt, Muriel Deslauriers; cousins Janet Wood and David Deslauriers; and his nephew, Michael R. Deslauriers II.

Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Mains and her partner Joshua, his sons Todd Nadeau and his partner Katelin, Ben Austin and Heath Austin and spouse; grandchildren, Dominic Hart, Lillian Marston and her husband Dylan, Seth Dyer and his fiancee Mercedes, Dylan Spier, Gage Spier, Evan Austin and Millie Austin.

Visitation will be held at the Albert and Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine St., Lewiston, on Friday, March 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A private celebration of life and graveside service will take place in the spring. Condolences and memories of Terry may be left for the family at http://www.albert-burpee.com.
