In speaking, nay, complaining about the the two-year budget signed by Gov. Mills, Rep. Mark Blier of Buxton echoed the perpetual Republican mantra regarding funding our government that “… the population and they’re already overtaxed. …”. He, nor other Republicans seem to not understand that paying taxes is the price we all must pay to live in a free society; one that cares about the well-being of everyone, whether rich or poor.
No, we are not overtaxed. Some of us are overly selfish, and callous, and seem not to care about our fellow citizens, some of whom are truly hurting and need our support.
Democrats, including Rep. Ed Crockett, D-Portland, and Sens. Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop and Stacey Brenner, D-Gorham, joined Republicans in opposition, according to the article. Their decision is perplexing me. I wonder how they will explain to their voters as to why they chose to give a thumbs down to responsible governing.
Meanwhile, in Washington, D.C., the Trump-Musk partnership is wreaking havoc, closing departments unilaterally and lawlessly (in my view), firing experienced government workers by the tens of thousands willy-nilly. At this point, with the inmates in charge of the asylum — the sycophants, hypocrites and unqualified talking heads – I am not sure our democracy, nor our economy for that matter, will survive unless millions of us speak out for a return to sanity in government and the rule of law.
