Fred C Dingley

WELLS – Fred C. Dingley, 64, of Wells, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a courageous battle with liver cancer.

Fred was born on Nov. 2, 1959, the son of Paul C. Dingley and Marie St. Pierre.

Fred could usually be found at the Arundel Flea Market where he enjoyed dealing with antiques and collectibles. Fred enjoyed spending time in the areas where he grew up – Saco, Wells, Alfred and York. Both Fred and his former wife, Linda loved the ocean. Fred joined Linda’s family at their annual week to the ocean to Old Orchard Beach and Saco right up until the summer before he passed away.

Fred was well known for his ability to make people laugh. He was a storyteller and jokester. He will always be remembered for his boisterous laughter. He was known for saying he was going “whichever way the wind blows.”

He was predeceased by his wife Linda Henderson Dingley and his half sister Mary Ann Houle. Fred is also survived by his wife’s daughter Keely Sorkin. He had a very special relationship with Ryan Grivois, who grew up with Fred. Ryan looked up to him like a father. Fred remained close with his former wife Linda’s family – Lee and Mary Henderson, Sheila Raymond, Holly Taylor and Kandi Cupples. They had many nieces and nephews. Fred had many “buddies” that he considered like family that are too numerous to name. Fred is also survived by a sister Paulette Dingley.

A burial at sea was held at Drakes Island in Wells where his former wife Linda’s ashes were also spread when she passed away in 1997.

Arrangements were under the care of Dobson Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
