WATERFORD — The beloved Waterford Summer Breakfasts are back for the 70th summer, continuing a cherished tradition that has brought friends, neighbors, and visitors together for decades. First introduced 72 years ago, the tradition paused only twice due to the pandemic, making its return even more special.
Festivities kick off on Independence Day, Friday, July 4, at the historic Wilkins House, located at the foot of Plummer Hill in the heart of Waterford. Additional breakfasts will follow on Wednesdays—July 16, July 30, and August 13, with all events running from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
A True Taste of Summer
Guests can enjoy a delicious spread featuring scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, muffins, donut holes, juice, coffee, tea, and locally sourced Maine maple syrup from Colonial Hill Farm. The cost is $12 for adults and $8 for children ages 4-12.
Volunteers Make It Happen
The Waterford Summer Breakfasts thrive on the generosity of volunteers. Ginny Raymond and Brenda Hambleton, longtime coordinators, welcome helping hands in both the kitchen and dining room. Those interested in volunteering can reach out via email at [email protected].
A Festive Start to the Holiday
July 4th in Waterford is a celebration to remember, making it a special day for both year-round residents and seasonal visitors. Alongside the breakfast, attendees can enjoy an 11 a.m. parade, a library book sale, open houses at the historical society’s buildings, the Waterford Farmers Market, and the PTA’s Annual Duck Race in a town center brook—creating a vibrant and welcoming start to summer.
Supporting a Community Landmark
Proceeds from the breakfasts support the Wilkins House, an essential gathering space for the community. By joining in the festivities, attendees are contributing to the continued upkeep of this historic venue.
Come for the food, stay for the company, and be part of a treasured tradition that brings Waterford together!
