Prior to the presidential election, I had a letter to the editor published (“At 90, I no longer vote Republican,” March 13, 2024). I implied that Donald Trump was like Adolf Hitler. It would seem not enough agreed with me. Being 92 years of age, I realize my life is getting short. But I am deeply concerned.
Prior to the election — in which I voted Democratic — I was a proud Republican and a proud U.S. resident.
Many years ago, my husband (of 71 years) and I were in London viewing the change of the guards. An elderly gentleman came up to me and asked if I was an American. I said “yes” and he extended his hand and thanked me for the help our country gave during the war. I wonder what this situation would be like today.
I worry for my family and all families. When I die, am I going to leave a country which has always given me such pride? Or am I going to leave to a dictatorship?
