PARIS — Jamie Toohey was named the new principal of Paris Elementary School on Monday night by directors of Maine School Administrative District 17.
Toohey has been assistant principal at the Paris school the past two years. She has held district positions for 16 years and spent close to four years with Norway Savings Bank.
“Jamie holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia as well as a math coach certificate, and received her master’s degree in advanced educational leadership from the University of Maine,” Shauna Broyer, of Oxford, chair of the personnel committee, said. “She knows the school and its kids and fits well with the structure of the school, and she was recommended by our hiring committee.”
Superintendent Heather Manchester said, “Jamie’s been with our district for a really long time. She taught at Harrison Elementary School, and taught English at Oxford Hills Middle School.
“She was actually my oldest son’s favorite English teacher. She was a literacy coach at the middle school. We’re very excited for Jamie to continue to be part of our administration,” she added.
Toohey succeeds Lori Pacholski, who is leaving the Oxford Hills School District after 26 years.
Directors also confirmed Lynn Newell as part-time coordinator for multitiered systems of support and part-time interventionist for Hebron Station School.
Newell earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a certificate in advanced studies in coaching from the University of Maine at Orono. She was employed as a literacy coach at Rumford Elementary School in Regional School Unit 10.
The multitiered systems of support coordinator is considered half-time and is paid with federal funds.
Newell will take on grant management responsibilities previously held by Melanie Ellsworth, who is retiring. She will also be Hebron Station School’s interventionist, also a part-time position.
“Lynn has been an interventionist for some time and knows how to run tier three programs and Response to Intervention,” Broyer told the board. “She has grant-writing experience and we predict she will have amazing collaboration with administration and those within the school.”
