A Gray woman who was fatally struck by a car in New Gloucester over the weekend was the co-owner of Birchwood Brewing.

Stacy Strattard, 64, has been remembered by colleagues on social media as a welcoming, kind woman who loved working at the brewery in Gray.

“Stacy had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. If you ever came into the brewery chances are you were greeted by her warm smile and kind spirit,” read a post from the brewery on Facebook. “She truly loved what she did and loved the community that grew around her. Birchwood will never be the same without her, but we will keep her spirit alive in everything we do here.”

Strattard, one of the brewery’s three founders, had renovated a section of her barn to make room for a new brewing system, according to the brewery’s website. The founders created their own beer recipes for the small batch brewery on Portland Road.

Another post from the brewery on Facebook said: “Losing Stacy has left a huge hole in our hearts, but we know she would want us to keep pushing forward and continue making this place she loved so much a success.”
