A 61-year-old Greenwood man was sentenced Friday to 45 years in prison for the 2024 shooting death of his wife.

Prosecutors say David Gaudreau shot and killed 59-year-old Dale Gaudreau in her car last May.

Earlier in the year, Gaudreau pleaded guilty to a single count of knowing and intentional murder. He was sentenced Friday afternoon in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.

He had faced up to life in prison.

According to court reports, in the early evening May 28, 2024, police responded to several reports of a motor vehicle crash on Route 108 in the area of 106-109 Auburn Road, Route 108 in Peru.

Callers also reported that the driver of a truck had stopped next to the vehicle and fired shots into the car, police said.

When police and rescue crews arrived, they discovered a blue Hyundai on the side of the road with Dale Gaudreau dead in the driver’s seat.

According to court accounts, Dale Gaudreau had left her husband roughly a week before the shooting. Prosecutors said David Gaudreau took his son’s handgun and followed his wife home from work, shooting and killing her when he had an opportunity.

Gaudreau was arrested later that night after surrendering himself to police and had remained jailed since.
