
Russell L. Norris
LEWISTON – Russell L. Norris, 90, a resident of Jay, passed away as a result of a stroke, Friday evening, August 29, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was born August 1, 1935, in Livermore Falls (Stricklands), the son of Elwin S. Norris and Verna (Cressey) Norris. He attended school in Livermore Falls.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956, receiving an honorable discharge from his last duty station the USS Basilone DDE 824. On August 13, 1955, he married Jean M. Beaulieu of Jay. Russell worked as a police officer for the City of Portland until his retirement in October of 1977. Following his retirement, he worked on construction and as a security guard at the James River Mill in Jay.
He was a former member of the Chestnut Methodist Church in Portland, a 50-year member of the Deering Lodge #0183 in Portland, 50-year member of the Scottish Rite in Portland, the V.F.W. Post #3335 in Jay, and George Bunten Post #10 American Legion in Livermore Falls. He enjoyed sitting in his garage and socializing with his neighbors, friends and family.
He is survived by his sons, Russell Norris, Jr. of Biddeford and Randall Norris of Norway; two grandchildren, Nissa Norris and Teila Norris-Julien and husband Andy; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Hayden Norris; sister, Ella Wilkins of Livermore Falls, sister-in-law, Evelyn Chabot and husband Normand of Livermore Falls; special niece Sherry Labbe and husband Jason of Livermore, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Jean, daughter-in-law, Theresa Norris, brothers, Carroll, Raymond, William “Bunky” and Ralph Norris, sisters, Hilda Whittemore, Helen Stanhope, Florance Ireland, and Marion Herrin.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, at Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls, Maine. Arrangements by FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine
