AUBURN — Local police are investigating a spree of motor vehicle burglaries over the past two weeks, Deputy Chief Jason Moen said in a written release Monday.

Property has been stolen from many unlocked vehicles at night, including loose change, laptop computers and GPS units.

In particular, burglars targeted the Stevens Mill area, as well as the neighborhoods of Hotel Road in and around Sandy Beach and Crescent Beach. They also targeted the Sunderland Drive neighborhood.

The burglaries were preventable, Moen said.

Motorists should lock the doors of their vehicles and not leave valuables in them or in open view. Neighbors can help by keeping an eye out for suspicious people at night and report any suspicious activity to police, Moen said.
