BANGOR – Bangor Savings Bank Foundation recently announced the recipients of its annual Community Matters More giving program.
Based on votes cast by more than 100,000 Mainers, 68 Maine nonprofits were deemed the winners of this year’s effort and will be granted a total of $100,000.
Eight nonprofits statewide that received the most community votes will each receive a $5,000 grant. The top vote-getter in the Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford region was The LifeFlight Foundation, which supplies emergency medical helicopter service.
An additional 60 nonprofit organizations that also received community members’ votes will receive grants of $1,000 each.
Voter turnout for this year’s program surpassed the 2011 numbers by 10,000. A total of 100,593 Mainers cast votes for 2,817 nonprofit organizations throughout the state.
The 60 $1,000 grant winners include 40 nonprofit organizations listed on the original ballot and 20 organizations that earned the most write-in votes in each of the eight regions.
The organizations receiving $1,000 grants in the tri-county area are:
Black Mountain of Maine, Franklin County Ecumenical Heating Fund, Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre, Franklin County Animal Shelter, Maine Adaptive Sports in Newry and The Public Theatre in Lewiston.
